Most people replace a water heater once or twice in the time they own a house, so it is not a decision you get much practice at. The unit you choose affects your energy bill for the next decade, and the wrong size is a problem you live with every morning.
We will tell you what actually suits your house: how many people use hot water, how much space you have, what fuel you already run, and what you are willing to spend up front against what you save later. Then we install it properly and take the old one away.
A leak from the tank body cannot be repaired. The tank has corroded through and needs replacing before it fails completely.
Most tank units last 8 to 12 years. Past that, repairs stop being good value.
If the hot water runs rusty throughout the house, corrosion is usually well advanced inside the tank.
When a repair approaches a meaningful share of a new unit, replacement is the better spend.
Often the tank is simply undersized for the household it now serves.
Older units lose efficiency. A modern unit can cut the standing cost of keeping water hot.
Conventional tank: lowest up front cost, simplest to service, and the right answer for most homes. Gas or electric depending on what you already run.
Tankless: endless hot water and a smaller footprint, higher up front. Best where hot water demand is heavy or space is tight.
Hybrid heat pump: the cheapest to run by a wide margin, but it needs space and a reasonable ambient temperature around it. Worth the math if the location suits.

Navien and Rinnai tankless water heaters give you continuous hot water and free up floor space. They cost more up front and have to be sized carefully, so it is worth understanding how they work before you choose one.

A hybrid heat pump water heater moves heat out of the surrounding air instead of making it from electricity, which is what makes it by far the cheapest type to run. It needs room around it and air that does not get too cold, so a garage, a basement or an open utility room suits it best.

How long does a water heater installation take?
A straightforward like-for-like tank replacement is usually a few hours. Changing fuel type, moving the unit, or converting to tankless takes longer because the venting, gas or electrical supply has to change with it.
Do you take the old water heater away?
Yes. Removal and disposal of the old unit is part of the job.
Tank or tankless?
Tankless gives you endless hot water and takes up less space, but costs more up front and often needs venting and gas supply changes. For most homes a conventional tank is still the sensible answer. We will tell you honestly which applies to yours.
Is a hybrid heat pump water heater worth it?
It is much cheaper to run, but it needs space around it and a reasonably warm location, so a small closet is usually not suitable. Where the location works, the running cost saving is substantial.
What size water heater do I need?
It depends on how many people use hot water and when. As a rough guide, 30 to 40 gallons for one or two people, 40 to 50 for a family, 50 to 80 or tankless for a larger household.
Do you charge for an estimate?
No. We give free estimates on all jobs.
Can you replace it the same day?
Often, yes, depending on the unit required and what is in stock. Tell us the make and size and we will tell you what is realistic.
Do you warranty your work?
Yes. Water heater installations carry a two year warranty on our labor, double the one year minimum we put on every other job. The heater itself carries its manufacturer’s warranty, which varies by brand and model.
Which brands do you install?
For standard tank units, gas or electric, Bradford White is our standard. For tankless, we install Navien and Rinnai. For hybrid heat pump units, any brand you prefer. We have access to every major brand, so if you want something specific, ask and we will get it.
Do you offer financing?
Yes. We offer financing through Affirm. The invoice we send you carries an option to pay over time instead of all at once, and Affirm sets the terms. Useful when a repair or a replacement arrives unplanned, which is usually how they arrive.
